Apprentices are employees of your business or organisation who are participating in a government funded training programme. Apprenticeships are not limited to new employees, so existing members of your staff may be eligible for Apprenticeship programmes.
Candidates must be:
- Over 16
- Not in full-time education
- Eligible to work in England
- Work ready and with the right skill levels
Training opportunities
Training is job-specific, tailored to meet the needs of your business and the needs of the Apprentice. Training which can be delivered on-site, at a training centre or college, within your schedule.
Apprenticeship funding
For 16 to 18 year old Apprentices, employers pay only the salary. The government will fund their training.
For 19-24 year old Apprentices, employers may be asked to contribute up to 50% of the training costs. This cost will depend on the skill area, length of Apprenticeship and training provider.
For Apprentices aged 25 and over, the employer may only get a contribution towards the training, depending on the sector and area in which the business or organisations operates.
Affordable wages
Employers are responsible for paying their Apprentices’ wages. The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £2.50 per hour.
This applies to time spent working, as well as time spent training – and to all Apprentices aged under 19. This wage also applies to Apprentices aged 19 or over in the first year of their Apprenticeship.
Employers can pay above the minimum wage, and many prefer to do so.
“Having the support of Devorah and Craig makes a big difference and I will be able to train them so that they have the skills I need to help me grow my business.”
